The Richmond Police Department is accepting applications for the 24th Citizens Police Academy.
Academy dates are June 13-July 19 (Tuesday and Thursday Evenings from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Fresh Anointing Cathedral, 3001 2nd Ave, Richmond, Va.
What is it? The FREE Citizens Police Academy is designed to introduce citizens to the RPD, improve relations with RPD, help participants gain knowledge of police operations, develop stronger advocates and promote safety in the community. Sessions will include, but not be limited to: RPD patrol functions, crime prevention through environmental design, personal safety, hands-on exercises, tours within the Richmond Police Department and so much more.
Who may attend? It is great for persons interested in a career in law enforcement or who want to learn about the law enforcement profession. Citizens are expected to attend and participate in at least 80% of the sessions.
Graduates of the Citizens Police Academy officially become Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS). Members of VIPS are notified of volunteer opportunities, events, special programs and services with RPD. Graduates may also be called to participate on special boards and planning committees.
